.50 Ammonia to much for fish/corals?

Hi,
I had to tear down my 150g tank this past weekend due to a leak. I have the new tank set up, but I got a ammonia reading of .50. All my live stock is in buckets and tubs in my living room so I was wondering if it is safe to move them back yet or should I wait. I have pretty hardy fish as well as a few LPS and all kinds of soft corals.

I tore down the whole tank and bought a new one. I have a 2" SB that I had to reuse so I think thats where the ammonia is comming from. No nitrates or nitrites yet. Also how long can my corals live without reef lighting. They are all closed up, but look Ok so far.

3 striped damsel is "testing" the water for me. Didn't think .5 was too much for fish. Just worried about the corals.

Uh, testing with a Damsel? That's what some people use to cycle the thing........

If you are doing through another cycle, bet think of something else for the corals.....
Any live rock in this thing?

I just figured I put the damsel in first and see how he does. I have a lot of cured live rock. ammonia is down to .25. Hope by tomorrow its zero.

very possible, but just hope your nitrites dont shoot up then. If they do, then you are cycling again.

How can I prevent a cycle? Or is that a bad idea/unavoidable. Thanks.

it may be unavoidable, you may want to have a friend test it for you with a different test kit too. your kit may be off. i would say you are probably hitting another cycle.

I got to womdering/thinking, if your live rock in buckets and tubs were not kept warm and aerated, watch out for spikes from die off there too. What I was saying about the damsel, I wouldn't use that as a guide to water being safe for fish...they can often survive conditions hardly any other fish can. I'd keep some Amquel+ handy for an emergency and fresh saltwater too.
