WTB Submersible Pump
I'm looking for a submersible pump to use for water changes. I don't really want to lug 5 gallon buckets of water up the stairs. Looking for a Mag 12 or a Mag 18, or similar. I have about 15 feet of head to contend with so I think the Mag 18 would be the better option. Or any other ideas are welcome. I've been looking at residential sump pumps and they aren't a whole lot cheaper I don't think. BTW - the tank is all plumbed and ready to go. Just waiting for a big strong guy to help move it upstairs from the basement.

Do you have a sump you could add it to instead? I am confused how you would need to pump up 15 feet...I do not doubt you but please elaborate.

It is 15 feet max. Flow rate is not too big of an issue since I plan to use this for water changes. If it takes 1 minute or 5 minutes it makes no difference to me as long as I don't have to carry buckets up the stairs. The specs tell me that the Mag 18 should work OK. Any one have one laying around they are not using?

Back when I had a freshwater planted tank upstairs. I used a Gen-x Mak4 for this exact purpose and it worked well.

I have an external pump that I could use, I think its a Velocity T4. I thought the submersible pump would be an easier solution since I wouldn't have to put a bulkhead on my Rubbermaid saltwater bucket.

If the T4 is a spare pump, I would give that a try before buying something else.
For my purpose, I just used pvc over the side of the bucket to the pump instead of drilling. Just used a slip end cap on top to open and pour a little water in to get the siphon going. Less then $5 in PVC. Since its for a very short period of time and not left unattended it worked just fine.

Mag 18 is a good pump...I use it for a return. Uses half the elec of a 24.
