Question

WTB Acrylic

I am looking for a place that sells acrylic to the public. I plan on building a "weir" overflow box and a sump for my 20H gal. So far the only place that I have found that sells acrylic sheets to the public is Crown Plastics Inc.

Many acrylic shops sell scrap at $1 a pound which would be ideal for such small pieces your looking for.

Look up acrylic in the phone book.

The one I use is a-1 acyrlic in Oseo/MapleGrove but that's a bit of a drive for you.....

If you build a weir type overflow box, be sure to put an nipple/output at the top of the weir to hook up to a powerhead so it can suck out air that will inevitably get trapped. Otherwise, they work great for flooding your house.

Amen to that. I had one decide to quit and after my return pump emptied my sump and my top off system proved itself to function correctly, I had one heck of a mess.

stop the flooding.

here is a way to stop a weir overflow box from flooding your house. i have a small walmart powerhead in the sump pulling the air bubles out of the overflow box. and i installed a float switch to prevent the pump from flooding the house. it works great. you just have to make sure the hose to the powerhead stays clean. they get gunk in them once in a while and it slows down the removal of air.
