Lunch - get ahold of geshield, Greg/reefmania. I'm pretty sure he ran a single 400 in a 58, so he should have pics of that configuration somewhere.

I have plans to set up a 58g very soon. It will have a single 400w Radium 10" about the water, with 3 75w VHOs, both on IceCaps. I have accumulated much of it, and am waiting for someone to swap tanks and upgrade.

I have read about the spread quite a bit, and think it's fine, and with 3-4 VHOs it will be barely noticable. It will allow you to place corals up top on the sides that may not like the 400w bulb, like blastomussa.

Thats the plan. But if I were able to spend more, I'd go with the dual 250w instead because there will be few limitations and better intensity near the bottom.

cool cool...i didn't figure a single 400w would be a problem and that would be NICE to have 2 VHO's on it

yeah i hear you about the smaller box not taking up as much room

Greg actually has 2 400w on his 58 right now... but I think I remember hearing he used to have only 1... I cannot confirm that though.

No, as far as I know, he has switched to a single 400w and 4 VHOs. He used to have dual 400s and dual VHOs, recently I believe, and had SPS looking sickly in that intensity.

yeah, no center brace.

one 400 is OK, side top is not as bright as center b/c of one bulb. but shout do just fine.

490+60 for dril and overflow=$550

sorry no pics, negotiate price...PM me.

if you want to see the color of the tank go here: http://www.oceanicsystems.com/products_aq_standard.html

A single 400W Bulb will illuminate the full 36" length as long as you have the proper reflector. I have a spiderlight reflector and my lights are approx. 10" from the water's surface. I do have 2 400W'ers in a single ballast right now and I love the color the 10K usio and the XM produce together. I do not run them both on at the same time anymore though. My Blue tort did not like all that light and has yet to fully recover..

All my other corals did just fine. with the 800W configuration, my purple monster was growing fast but lightened up to a light purple. Bill Bramucci was over to my place about 1 month ago and didn't even recognize it.

I am playing around with 4 actinics to see if the colors come out anymore with more supplementation.

Right now, my lighting scheme is Ushio 1 day for 10 hrs, XM next day for 10 hours...alternating days.

HTH,
Greg
