Question

Won Brothers Pro Heat II Question

I have a 350w Pro Heat II that seems to be acting up.
It's been rock solid for 8 months now, but while feeding tonight I noticed the lcd showed 92. I quickly felt the water and it was fine. My other thermometer showed it was 76.5 The sensor is 18" from the heater so that is not the issue. Even taking the sensor out of the water did not lower the temp on the LCD.

Strange... I did some searching and have found that some people suggest that it's an EMI issue, but I haven't added any new ballasts, or anything for that matter, recently.

Has anyone else had this issue or have an idea?
I plan to call Won tomorrow, but have read their support is marginal at best. I guess it's time to start looking for a real temperature controller.

I know my ph monitor goes wacky when the battery gets low, but your unit plugs in, so no clue here.

Try unplugging your heater in brining it into another room and heat like a bowl of water or soemthing.... see what your reading says

Thanks Trodder, I'll try that tonight.

I just called Won support and was less than impressed.
I guess I won't be buying another Won for the new reef tank.

there support is lousy in the sense you cannot understand them and they don't really want to help a whole lot.... however call them back and make demands. Tell them you want the address RIGHT NOW to send the defective one back and that you expect them to send a new one the same day they receive it.

Ditto, just stay away from the digital version next time.

The analog are good heaters but as with any heater I don't trust the built-in thermostat and always use a temperature controller in conjuction.

We have had the exact same problem with our digital.....they told us to send it in and they would repair or replace it. Our LCD told us it was 68 and our tank temp was at 90 !!!!! So we pulled it out and tried to reset. Then it said our tank was at 192 degrees and the tank temp had fallen to 68 degrees. From here we could not reset it.
Sounds like its time to go analog and get a separate controller.

I just saw the thread and it threw up a flag about my heat problems with my tank. I bought a new thermometer and found out my tank wasn't overheating at all!! it was the stupid WON controller reading 6deg off. It's time to look for a new controller.

Yeah... my lcd display is way off too, but I think it may be a grounding issue since it worked on another outlet(Trodder's suggestion).

I'm just glad this tipped me off to the problems with Won. I'm going to get a Ranco and a basic titanium heater for the new 55.
