Wouldn't be much of a skimmer for that price.

Well you probably won't find someone locally to build you the same skimmer. There is a huge different in the quality you are getting.
It does not specify what pump you are getting, which means you don't know what needle wheel you are getting. Perhaps the biggest factor in performance.

For that kind of budget, I still think it's pretty tough to beat an ASM skimmer.

this one would be a better buy if your going to do the mod. http://www.customaquatic.com/customa...S-CVOCT-NW-200
me thinks, the rps-2000 is a bit too high in price for a 5" tube. send pm to the local guys to see what they can come up with for a 6" tube.
if you do get it let us know

For a little more than that you can get a local skimmer made that will out skim that thing any day. Not only that but the fact that something breaks on the skimmer you have the manufactuer right here and not half way around the world. IMO the service alone would be worth the price.

Come on! Someone buy my vho light setup and I'll be the guinea pig. I would have to add a couple hundred dollars to that price before I could touch something local. The quality can't be any worse then the ASM G1-X I had. The pump is manufactured by the same company that makes the Ocean Runner pumps (I don't know if the specs are the same though). Either I will end up eating some tasty crow or I will end up satisfied. Plus with all the money I would save I can buy a new driver .

I was reading about an octopus skimmer... I recall the pictures being the same as this one. It is quite possible this skimmer would give an ASM a run for its money.
