Lots and lots of snails. Of course prevention is the best thing...RO water, regular water changes, not overfeeding, etc. We just got a great order from www.keyscritters.com . We had some green turfy algae in our FO which has nearly disappeared thanks to lots of cerith snails, hermits, emeralds, and astreas.

Did that LR I give have some? None of the stuff I have had any on it. Best way to get rid of it is to manually pull the stuff and then get a bunch or red legs.

Jake, the LR you gave me is still curing... That stuff is looking better than it did when I picked it up. The night I got it from you it had a lot of black stuff on it but it is quickly going away.

Dwayne, Right now I am not adding any nutrients to my tank except kalk that I just started last night. I am actually hoping that will help in the respect that it will give the coraline the last major nutrient to grow, so it will hopefully then overpower the hair algae

Regular additions of Kalk will help but probably not eliminate what is already there. Toothbrush, snails, Kalk, and watch what you feed. Don't expect to fix overnight could be a slow process...

I hear ya... slow as she goes...tick tick tick tick... that is why we are all in the hobby though right?? because we all have patience... LOL!!! okay seriously though what are the best snails to use to battle hair algae?? There are so many to choose from what would be most ideal? I am attempting to get some red foot sanils but can't seem to find an LFs that carries them. Also I am still looking for some more emerald crabs at a good price. So far it seems that a pet shop in ramsey has the best price at $7.99 each. If anyone out there has some that they would like to sell let me know. I bought two a couple weeks ago and they just mow the stuff down. The only problem is I can only seem to see one at a time... not sure if I even have 2 anymore... know what i mean. Anyway I could use a few more. I am hoping to have 5 maybe even 6 total.

If you see hair popping up, you should also test your Phosphate.

If you get anything above the lowest reading, the use of a high quality phosphate remover is also an option. It's not a permanent cure (unless you use it all the time, which I wouldn't advise), but it can possibly help get you over the hump.

There really is no substitute for high grazing and good export, though...
