I am anti powerhead due to them killing fish, urchins, snails, starfish, anenomes, etc... I prefer gatting a closed loop for added flow with a Sea Swirl or Oceans Motion or something.....

I use a red sea (2 years) and so far like it very much. I have had a problem with my powerheads killing a snail or two but that could be easily resolved by using a screen or whatever strainer that comes with the powerhead. Since putting these on my powerheads I have had no issues.

The wave maker does a good job for me though...

It all depends on if this will be a retrofit, or new install, as closed loops usually need planning before the tanks is setup. Wavemakers is usually the least expensive and good for those on budget. Generally, wavemakers are for the smaller setups around 100g. The larger the tank usually you need more flow than what a powerhead can produce.

I prefer to use other water currents (aim the flow patterns so they intersect each other) and tank walls/rock to break up the flow patterns.
It's natural, random, and doesn't cost extra.

just empty your tank in to some rubber maids and bring it over we can drill some holes for a CLS

I have used the WM before but like Graham said there is other ways to do it.

I used to use wavemakers. They make your powerheads go bad. Power heads are not meant to be turned off and on consistanly. After a while they make this horrible clicking loud noise. So my wavemaker just sits in my closet now. I have a 3/4" sea swirl now in my 125gallon acrilic tank. Along with with two Seio 820's and one 620 running at all times.

Maxijets Powerheads are very durable and do fine long term on wavemakers.......My guess is your referring to another brand of powerheads....

^^^Yeah , I should of been more specific, those Seio's dont do well on those wavemakers. I have had about two or three Seio's burn out eventually from the wavemaker. And those Seio's are no cheap powerheads either.

I used a WavemasterPro and 4 maxijets 1200s for a little over a year in a 75g and it worked fine. Then I spent the money and got a pair of Tunze Stream 6000s and a multi controller. What a difference that was...

BTW the tunze are another option for great flow and very litttle electric for the gph they put out. Downside is they are large. And even though they seem expensive I have seen many people spend more money on their CLS when you factor in the price of the pumps, plumbing, sea swirls, oceanmotions.

Just some more of my $.02

im using mine on 2 eheim 1260's that help add a little more to the closed loop. they have been running for 2 years with no problem. ithink the closed loop is alot better circulation but if your tsnk is set up or your on a budget the wave maker would work until you can upgrade to a bigger tank.
