Water changes & algae blooms

It seems that every time I do a water change, I get a bloom of this brown slimey stuff. (i think its red slime algae) I am using RC salt. How come this happens and can it be stopped or decreased?

have you tested your water before you put it in there? If you're using RO water and not checking it, maybe it's time to change your RO filter (don't have one, don't know exactly how it works). Also, some stores are bad about keeping up with their filtration systems and thus have crappy RO. Test for phosphates, nitrates, etc before you add it in there.

it gives time for the gas exchange. The gasses may be the cause, but I couldn't tell you for sure

While it may be possible, it is very unlikely to be the salt. That only leaves the water. Are you testing with a TDS meter to know for sure your filters are tip top ? Bucket you use to mix the salt, you disinfected it before use ?

what do you use to transfere the water from and to the tank? hoses and cotainers can get dirty and or contain stuff that you cleaned the container wth.

Robbie, I'll bring my TDS meter over and we'll check your water. At the rate I'm going, it'll be late in the day.

You can use some distilled white vinegar to wash/scrub them out, or else even a dilute bleach solution. Just be sure to rinse out the buckets with really hot water afterwards to neutralize the bleach.
