Want to borrow: turbelle stream
Hi all,
As the title says, does anyone have a tunze stream that I could borrow for a day or three? Trying to decide between using those, or doing the closed loop I had been considering.
It turns out that running a hammerhead for a year costs over $200 more in electricity than running 3 6060s (I think that's the "small" one), and over 5 years, the hammerhead is nearly three times more expensive in initial cost plus electical costs.
I have a feel for what plumbing up the closed loop will do for my tank, but I'd love to place a Tunze in the tank and SEE what that'd do, especially before I go out and buy them.
Anyone? Thoughts?
Ron

Ron, if you don't mind coming to get it, I have a 6080 that you can borrow.

Go Tunze! I battled with the cost for a year in my head, would not return them for anything

Now that you are a master of rock work, you can DIY the TUNZE rocks.

Or else you coud buy one for me that has a bunch of encrusted corals on it. I think I may go to the magnets for one of my streams...haven't decided, though.

heh heh heh... We'll talk.
I still want to see what it does in the tank though, so I'll have to pop over soon.
And I think Roseville is going to be a bit more convenient than Rochester, but thank you for the offer!

Ron, when are you coming to get the ballast? I dug it out of the storage room and it's ready to go. Please don't confuse this MH ballast for a tunze though. You can't submerge these.
BTW, go tunze. You'll be glad you did.

Don't want to hijack this thread - oh yeah, maybe I do...
How important would it be to have the speed control option of say a Tunze 6000? I was thinking of getting one for my 90 and then thought maybe two might be better than one. Hows that for logic. Anyway, should I go for the more expensive speed control option or not?

Having just switched to using the magnets I will say they work very well. The only downside is you can't turn the pump past about 45 degrees. It's probably more important to me having the open top but I'm sure you'll like being able to move them around.

IMO yes definatelly. My corals seem to respond better to the pulseing of the flow and the ability to adjust the power down is a nice bonus. I would only do two if you have the multi controller. I am running two off the single controller in my 75 and it is actually better off with one rather than two that are pointed at each other deflecting the flow back at the stream. With the mulit controller you can have one on and one off alternateing back and forth which is much better than two on at the same time IME. I am ordering the 7095 mulitcontroller for mine this week. It should make a huge difference.....

In that case I'll take the 6000 with the controller.

I'm sure they'll re-route it to me, all right. Otherwise I'll have to schedule a road trip. Too bad Hudson isn't closer to Roseville.
