In theory it is supposed to help the bacteria populate quicker but I am highly skeptical of putting vodka in my tank.

wow i cant believe people would put vodka in there tanks to cycle them. thats just nuts. you would have to do alot of water changes to make sure there was no polutants in the tank before you added fish or corals. i dont think its worth the chance you would be taking. i would wait the extra month for a proper cycle to happen.

This is a tried and true method over seas, no worries, the only catch is that the vodka dosage is SUPER small and a miscalculation can crash your tank. You have to start out with a VERY small dosage and work your way up. Jeffie and I had a lot of fun reading up on this method but never really went a head and did it with out tanks. Vodka dosing is based on the whole idea of getting away from an algae based system and move your system towards a completely bacterial based system. From what I've seen and read people get results similar to zeovit. But a fair warning to everyone, DO NOT just go and dump vodka willy-nilly into your tank, there are many people that have done this and completely crashed their tank. Do the homework if you want to try the vodka method.

superman does the vodka help to prevent the alage blooms? if it helped with that i guess it might be worth reasearching it.
but it would still scare me to dose vodka to a tank.it seems like we are trying to set up tanks faster and faster and i would be woried about a crash. it took me a month to get the 120 up and running and that was with cured rock in the tank. i had it cycling for 30 days before i trusted it to my corals and fish. i never lost 1 animal that actualy made it to the 120. i did loose a couple to the dust storm i created in the 180. i will have to reasearch this for the 300. if i can cycle the tank in the same amount of time but not get the alage blooms it would be great.

Same is true for dumping vodka down your throat.

Vodka dosing that I have done research on is more for sustaining an already set up tank. While I see people using it to start up their tanks, it just seems like another short cut that really isn't needed. Vodka would possibly help jump start bacteria in a new system, but I would be of the opinion to just start up the tank with the addition of ammonia, food or other less dangerous means.
