With VHOs, many of your really high light acropora just aren't going to do much for you. However,
Acropora Millepora types ususually will color up pretty decent. Acroporas that are blue/teal/or purple you will have a very hardtime trying to maintain that color, VHO just can't achieve an intense enough to maintain. There may be some exceptions but very few. Some Acropora Staghorns will do fine, depending on the coral some will look more drab than others.
Non Acroporas like pocillipora, Hydnophora, Pavona, stylophoras, birdsnest all will do pretty well. Porites will live but likely stay drab. Those are the types I would more concentrate on with just VHOs. Yellow porites for example will be much darker, your purple porites types that can be stunning purple under MH, will be very dark in color.
With Montipora there are so many types and some many lighting requirements it really depends on the specific coral. Orange digitata does real well, Purple you probably have a tough time keeping a solid purple color. Many Montipora Caps will do okay but green with purple rim type will likely loose the purple rim or be very faint light purple or white.
There can be exceptions to those generalizations based on other things than just Lighting for that's what you can generally expect.
I was a long time MH user that downsized and had VHOs until just recently changed them out for T5. I have had lots of experience with many type of SPS and can give you probably a better expectation than someone who hasn't had experience with MH to know the true potiential of many corals that do 'okay' under VHO.
Too early to know if T5 will do better or not for Acroporas but I do like the fact that you get a more wider variety of bulbs to achieve lighting to your exact lighting personal preference vs. just the 3 types of URI brand VHO bulbs to choose from.
I haven't seen a real direct correlation between Strontium and growth. I do dose strontium and does help seed
coraline algae that's for sure.....
