Thinking of taking a hobby break

I have been contemplating about taking a hobby break for a while. I have not been able to sit down and enjoy my tank like I use to since we moved into the new home, prolly because it's in it's own room and nothing else is down there and it's not the common meeting area. I don't think I have sat down there more then once in the past month atleast, I just go down there for feeding, water top-off and changes, and glass scraping. Things are growing like mad and I am already overly stocked and don't have room for more growth or additions.

I'm going to Washington DC on Thursday for 5 days, as a potential job oppurtunity, there is the "unknown" out there, let's just say if I were to get a job and we decided to move, I would have to scramble to sell darn near everything I have, a large fish community would not be easy on the spur of the moment.

There are also more things I want to complete around the house and dedicate my time to this year, like landscaping, maybe another family room (where I want a built in tank), turning the fish room into another bedroom, another garage or addition to it...

So when I get back from DC I think I will be posting up everything, Would be nice if some people could come up here for the tear down that way they can lug things back down there as I don't see me selling anything locally, it just isn't up here. Details can be worked out later about this. For those that have seen the tank before, they can probably vouch that it would be worth a trip up here.

Just some things I am thinking about.

One thing I learned early in the hobby was to set the tank up in a highly visable area where people will see it all the time and you can spend your time enjoying it. Here are some pics of the highly visable location I chose on my current build. maybe just moving your tank to a new location will brighten it up for you. I hate to see any one leave the hobby. The good news is that you will be back everyone aways comes back.

Messes happen.... especially around the tanks IME

I agree with placement. I put mine in my livingroom so that I'm constantly getting enjoyment out of it.

I would be up for helping.

I think once Josh has left for the Navy I am going to move all 3 tanks to his room. That way all three are in one location, put in some nice furniture and call it MINE!

Thanks for the offers to help, in our last home I had the 90 in the living room, I would enjoy it immensly, but in our new home we have sooo many windows in the main level that it wasn't possible to put one up and not worry about direct sunlight. That's why when/if I add another family room I am making it optimal for a tank.

And for those that would come up, there is a spare bedroom, a cushy couch, a cushy love seat, floor space, for people that would maybe want to come on an evening before... But like I said, more plans will come out later.

Hey Skip,

Sorry to hear about you thinking of laying low for awhile. Depending on what days you are needing help I would volunteer on coming up and helping you.

Hopefully you can still keep your tanks going. I also agree on placement of the tank(s). My 90g I set up late last year is in the living room for that purpose and for others to look at also.

Well good luck Skip and enjoy your trip to D.C

p.s. Also if you move out there, they won't have as much snow as we do

I would be willing to take the trip up there. My wife was just talking about taking the boy on a little trip with the three of us. Of course she is saying that when she is on her way to Florida with the boy.

Hey Skip, your tank looks great, too bad you might take it down. You're right though, it would be kind of hard to get rid of everthing in your 125 in a short period of time if you do get the job out there..... Also, you do have LOTS of work to do with the new house too IF you do leave the hobby, I know you'll be back with a much larger and nice setup. Good luck with what you decide.
