T5 Light Fixture Question...

I recently purchased a T5 Tek Light fixture (48"- 4 54 watts). I decided to forego the option to purchase the acrylic shield, but I'm now having doubts about my decision. I run an open top tank so there's nothing between the lighting and the water. I've got about 3-4 inches of clearance (water to light). The fixture has been up and running on/over my tank for about two weeks now and I haven't had any problems. The question is am I asking for trouble in the long run by not having a shield covering the lights? Thanks for your help.

I know my little clips for the tek lights rusted out pretty quickly. Does the fixture use water proof endcaps ? If not then best to keep it covered.

It uses moisture proof end caps. I'm guessing there's a difference, correct?

Running without the splash guard is fine providing the lights don't get saltspray. Clips may rust from the high humidity but that's about it......

Absolutly use the splash guard. You can make one from 2 sheets of acrylic from Menards, should cost you less than 12bucks, so why not? If your running neer the tank you should really do it anyhow. I think I have a ton extra here, I'd be happy to cut it up for cost. I have the 4 bulb 3' unit too so you wouldn't have to lug yours over for sizing.
