sump question (spin off from stand question)

So I went and got a 30g for my sump and it doesn't fit through door opening of the current stand config. It will fit into the opening underneath through the top but I was hoping to have the ability to take the sump out in the future if needed without taking down the tank.

So my question is how many people have sumps under their main tank that they can take out if needed if troubles arise??

not me, I guess the question is what could possibly happen that would require sump removal? Do it right the first time and you likely won't need to remove it. Acrylic is nice for it's versatility in being drilled easily (sort of- ask redwinger about our melt locked hole saw) and being able to make simple changes and repairs where it sits.

Totally agree about doing things right the first time, but things can happen. Mainly just curious on what people had their sumps.

I was able to move mine from under the tank into another room whcih made it much easier to work in. But since setting it up in the other room some 3 years ago I have never had to move it ot take it out for any reason.
My concern with under the tank is how limitied the space is, at least in mine. If I hadnt moved it I would never had been able to add lights, chiller, etc.

you could always make a removable panel at one end of the stand so you could remove, replace your sump in case of a leak or something

When using stock stands, usually you can't get them out becuase you end up having to go through the top or behind it to get it in there.

When building custom stands, I always try to account for being able to take it out. But in all the years, I have never had to. It seems I am changing/upgrading tanks often enough that I haven't stuck with the same one for more than 2-3 years. When drilling for a certain pump I do like to go with a bigger bulkhead to if I did want to upgrade pumps etc. it should be able to handle without redrilling. While there is a chance you may need to remove/improve it, as long as you have testing your plumbing etc. well before stocking the tank it should be a remote possibility.
