Suicidal dwarf blue leg hermit ... ?

This one blue legged hermit I have keeps wedging itself under between the rock and one of my pulsing xena's. The xena attaches to the shell of the hermit and starts growing over the shell, hermit still alive but content to be stuck.

I have removed the hermit 4 times now, placed him on the opposite end of the tank, only to find him wedged under the xena again, with the xena partially attached to its shell.

What the hell is this hermit doing? Why does it keep going back to the same spot where it gets stuck? I even tried leaving him there for 3 days once to see if the hunger that would set it would maybe teach it something about being permanently stuck to a xena, but nooo ...

Just unstuck him again, place on opposite side of 75G tank, 2 hours later, he is wedged under the xena again. The xena now has about 1/2 of its base formed to the shell of this stupid hermit crab, so every time I take him out and he wedges himself back in its a "form fit".

just let the xenia attach to him and then cut the xenia away from the colony. Then you have a traveling xenia. Just make sure that it doesn't split all over your tank then

maybe it's found love? Just because it's not with another crab doesn't mean it cannot happen. Prejudice has no place in this world.
