starfire glass tanks chipping and pitting?

i was just on reef central and seen there that some poeple are having problems with starfire and diamonte glass tanks that have pit marks forming in the panes of glass. they also said that the starfire glass will scratch. has anyone here had that happen. i didnt think you could scratch glass with a mag cleaner. even if sand got in there. i know there is some custom tanks in the club with starfire glass so im curous to see if anyone else has had this happen.

here is the link to the thread.

well i know you guys have the starfire glass but i wanted others here to know what to look for if they plan to build there own tanks. there might be some other starfire tanks in the club and they need to know about this so they can watch out for it. sorry man i didnt mean to burst your bubble. get a uv bulb and check to see if you glass is backwards. its better to tear it apart now than to get it up and running and have a problem with it.

im not too worried about it. i would think this would happen alot with all tanks and not just starphire.

first you need a UV light. on starphire, with a ph, it is kinda difficult for a novice to tell the which side is which. when you hold the light on the tin side the edge of the glass will glow a milky whitish color.

and on a side note we handle starphire the same way that we would handle a normal piece of glass. no worries that it is going to scratch or chip.

Not entirely true- calcium carbonate will not scratch glass but a quartz sand will.

either way i wouldn't go running your magnet all over the tank with sand in it the same way i wouldn't take a handfull and smear it over the windshield of my car.
