Stand paint question
I need to paint the inside of my Oceanic stand to try and prevent the salt and moisture from wrecking the stand. My question is what type of paint do you use? I have a gallon of Kilz laying around, would that work?

Oil based would be best. Perhaps you should consider "mellowing out" your sump to cut down on the salt splashes.

three90s&125sump - I don't have my tank setup yet. I am doing this as a precaution. Plus I like to play in sumps and make a mess
No votes for Kilz? Dangit, I didn't want to have to spend money on paint !

Well, I have never personally had an issue with a stand being damaged by salt. I have always just kept the spashes to a minimum.

You might also consider siliconing the seams on the lower part of the stand. That way it will hold some water if there's ever a "plumbing mishap".

How about using the paint you have and applying polyurethane over it? That is what I plan to do inside my canopy and and stand. I use polyurethane on the outside of my stand and canopy to make sure it is sealed.
Just my 2 cents, but I am very new to this so don't kill me if I am wrong.

On the same topic I'm about to order the metal for my stand and I'm thinking about going taller so it' comfortable to look at when standing, instead of hunching over. The standard AGA stands are 27" tall. I'm thinking of increasing the height on the new stand an additional 12" to around 39". The downside is I'll need to use the step ladder to get at anything in the tank but maybe it's good to keep my hands out of the tank anyway. Any thoughts or experience people have with taller stands? I remember Derek's tank being taller and good veiwing height. How tall is your stand Derek?

the kilz will work fine. latex paint is alot better than it used to be. it might yellow slightly over time but its inside. besides i doubt it will.

Maybe I should bring it down to the truck shop and have them use that spray in bed liner! Then I would sprinkle some glitter on it to make it look fabulous!

Ahhh, good idea. I have a 5 gallon jug of roll on bed liner. That would work great. I think I would pass on the glitter part tho.
If "fabulous!" is what you are going for I would suggest looking at buying this http://www.helendavid.co.uk/images/f...otos/Elton.JPG and putting it behind the tank.
