Sebae Anemone

Is a sebae anemone compatible with the maroon-and-gold clown? In other words, if I get a sebae, will my M&G acclimate to it? Thanks.

Crevalle go to the Marine Depot Live site where they have a clown compatability chart. I hope this helps you. We have a pair of true percula's in a Rose BTA, I am not familiar with M&G clowns.

Thanks Mercedes. The only problem is, they don't list the M&G clown (which is fairly common). I'm not versed enough in the species to know which is closest to the M&G, most similar, etc.

Anyone? Anyone?

Maybe I'll have to go with a BTA.

Gold-Stripe Maroon Clownfish - Premnas biaculeatus
In nature they are found in association with the Bubble-tip anemone ( E. quadricolor).
I got this info from http://www.orafarm.com/clownfish.html They sound like very aggressive fish but it states because of that they have the largest spawnings.

book says

Entacmaea quadricolor (usualy solitary form)

Premnas biaculeatus - maroon clown, discovered and classified in 1790

spine cheek anemonefish is the name given

p. biaculeatus are brownish-red with 3 narrow white/grey bars.

males much smaller and brighter than females.

Fish from Sumatra posses yellow bars. (hence the M+G)

Bubble tip anemones have a better track record in captivity, and you can often buy captive-propagated ones, thus avoiding the very significant issue of taking clownfish-hosting anemones from the wild.

I'd say go with a bubble-tip anemone.

I had a Sebae grow huge in my tank, and one also in my friend's tank. I just sold mine at 16" from my 29g tank, and had no problems getting my Ocellaris pair to host. Some will be say that those clowns can be picky.

But if were you, I'd go with a premium BTA because it splits and is more adaptable. I like the purple with yellow tips the most. I've seen 'em for $40-60. I forgot where, I do alot of online coral shopping.

I wouldn't be worried about getting clowns to host in anemones. You can't trick them with anemone/clown pics on the glass. I became impatient after a month and made the clowns host in a day with a bleached anemone and skunk clown pic.

Thanks for the info everyone. I believe I will order a BTA, since that now sounds like the most logical choice. Much appreciated!
