salts...

I was just trying to find that topic, but I can't find it here or RC or anywhere....so here we go again (if it was here)

What kind of salt does everyone use, I've been using Red Sea, but I wanna try that 'oceanganc' (I don't know how its spelt, but its that new stuff in the crome bags)

Should I just try it, or a better kind to try?

It is what I use. I switched a while back from IO and have seen nothing but good results.

I have been using Oceanic for 6-7 months. I really like the salt. Mixes well and has high lvls of Cal and Mag. My only problem is with a CA reactor running it keeps Cal and Alk rock solid, then every time I do a WC Cal jumps 10 points. Cacium is currently over 500. This is good??? Well the down side is when I took a bunch of water out for all the frags I cut last night I left the auto topoff on and it dumped almost a gallon of kalk in. This lead to mass precipition of calcium and a white cloudy tank.

Ok I'm rambling. I plan to start mixing 2 parts IO to 1 part oceanic in the future.

When I finally get my tank running it'll be Oceanic.

djyox, in case you don't know Har-Mar Pets is the place to go if you're buying Oceanic salt. $39 for a 200 gallon pail. I bought two, now I just need to get my tank going.

well i thought people had problems with low ALK. had something to do with the calcium being so high. To be honest i really dont know much about this so dont take this as fact. i asked randy holmes farley when i wanted to change to Oceanic and he said unless you have problems with the one you are useing you should stay with that . I think that is why he uses IO. IO has been around forever and i dont think anyone has issues with it .

I really respect his opinion and if hadn't already been useing kent and having no problem i would use IO like he does i guess .

My alk stays around 10 with my calcium around 480 using oceanic.
Actually would like to lower the alk just a little but don't want to mess with it.
