Salinity Standards
I am looking for a local distributor for a 12.9 mS/cm (0.1 M) salinity standard to calibrate a conductivity meter. There are plenty available by mail order on the internet but I am too cheap to pay $14 shipping for a $15 standard.
Thanks!

Especially when you can spend $8 in gas, wear & tear/depriciation along with an hour or two or your personal time to do it : )

Thats why I am asking for a LOCAL distributor. If they are in the NW suburbs I can make a side trip on any number of errands I have been putting off...

I always think of local as being anywhere in the metro area for the most part. Nothing I want is ever around the corner it seems, it's all over at Dereks.

I could probably make it for you. Depending on what salts you want, I have access to a near IR moisture analyzer and a slew of analytical balances and ultra pure water (wfi)

Also I found our conductivity meter, It is a analytical grade meter that is calibrated weekly and used to measure purity of WFI, which is very scrutinous.

I could make it with IO, rather than reagent grade NaCl, but I dont think it would make a difference for a system suitibility of a conductivity probe.

I also have a lab-grade conductivity meter. I know nothing about the meter but my better half does. I mentioned your offer to make the standard for it and he is interested in trying it out.

lab grade? I would guess our set up is probably over $5000. Not to brag, but it tests water that is injected in to people, so it must be very accurate. wfi= water for injection. What ever you like

This was used to test the water we drink. Its not $5000 nice mind you, but by no means a cheap instrument either. Mine is not something any reefer would go out and purchase unless they won the lottery or something.

My better half just stopped in my cube and mentioned something about KCl instead of NaCl. Does that mean anything to you because it doesn't mean alot to me.

Cool, KCl is potassium chloride. This is used as storage for many electrodes, it is stable. I bet it would work fine. I would have to look down in the lad, I can let you know how much I got.
