RO/DI unit
Does anyone have some advise on a good RO/DI unit. I want to be able to hook it up to my refrigertor water line and also use it for my tank.
Thanks
Ken

I got my unit from filterdirect on ebay... I believe several other people in the club have too. http://stores.ebay.com/Filter-Direct...eNameZl2QQtZkm
Also lots have used airwaterice.com
I think you would need to get one of the units with a pressurized holding tank if you want to use it for your water supply on your fridge. The water coming directly off the unit would be so slow it would take 4 - 5 minutes to fill a glass of water...

We purchased this unit from Air, Water, & Ice to do exactly what you are talking about.
Dual Home/Reef 50 GPD for $189
Plumbed it in the basement, stealing the input from the ice maker / water dispenser off of the refridgerator and hooking that to the input of the RO/DI unit. It has a 3 gal pressurized storage tank and two outputs. Output 1 goes through the DI and into our 30 gallon rubbermaid trashcan with a float valve for the reef water. Output 2 skips the DI and goes up to the refridgerator for ice and water.
The only thing I added was a second inline valve. It comes with a valve to put in prior to the unit, to turn water on and off for the entire system. I added a second valve in the line that runs to the trash can. That way when I empty the trash can to mix salt water and the float valve opens, I can turn it off and wait to fill it back up until evening when we go to bed. Otherwise the entire 3 gallon supply empties into the trash can the the refrigerator has no more water until the trash can fills up first, then the 3 gallon tank fills back up.
Ryan.

Good point on the customer service. I saved a bunch of money on my unit from ebay, but the customer service was pretty lame. They told me it shipped like 3 times before it actually did. And they weren't very friendly when you did call, more like I was bothering them instead of purchasing their products. But for the money savings would do it again. Let me know if you get a unit from air water ice. I would like to piggyback your order and get a tds meter.

Jeremiah the only thing is, it may be cheaper to just get the TDS to your house since they don't have flat rate shipping.

Picked mine up from filterdirect off ebay as someone else stated above. I really like it. I've had no problems with it and don't know that paying more for the airwaterice one would have gotten me anything different.
Shipping was just fine for me. I ordered two complete units (one for me and the other for a co-worker) and they only charged us a few bucks more to ship the other unit plus 2 sets of replacement filters.
I highly recommend the one from ebay. Unless of course spending more on one will help you sleep at night.

Oh yeah, I just bought the 1/8" tubing from menards. The whole ~20' roll was pretty cheap and allowed me to put wherever I wanted.

Interesting $100 for a RO/DI unit and $90 for customer service. Guess you get WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!! Buy the Filter Direct, RO/DI is such a bunch of smoke and mirrors crap. The bottom line is TDS 0. The people who sell these for big bucks must have trouble sleeping at night. JMTCW.
