Return pump?
I am looking at getting a return pump for a 120 gal tank. I was just wondering what other people used and if any one had any suggestions.

Are you looking for a external pump or internal pump?

External gives you more options as generally higher quality. Externals usually don't add as much heat to your system. Even ones that can be used both ways usually external is less heat.
Ocean Runner 3500 is a pretty decent option if your on a budget and can be used as both external or submersable......Many will suggest Mag pumps but I have never been a fan of them due to the screws stripping easily when cleaning.

The ocean runner looks like a good pump. I didn't think I could get an external pump for that much. Does anyone have any experiance with this pump?

I really like the OR 2500 pump better as the fitting work easily with 3/4" pipe threads however GPH probably just a tad too small for your application. The OR 3500 I used you had to use barbed fitting for the output because the pipe threads weren't standard US pipe threads and couldn't find anything to fit. The input however was standard pipe threads.....

2500 can be plumbed with pvc fittings in and out.
The 3500 could for the input ( which would hook to the sump ) the output I had to use the barbed fitting because couldn't find anything to fit the threads as the pump is German. It may have changed as this was over a year ago.....

I am not familiar with barbed fitting? Is that just as it sounds- using barbs to hold the tubing?

Yep. Barbed fitting is for vinyl tubing vs. using PVC........

Yes, you still need to use a stainless steel hose clamp around the outside.

IMO: Always use a clamp on any barbed fitting. Any external I use the metal clamp as they are the tightest. In tank use there are some plastics ones but not as secure....
