Reef Crystals?

Any use this salt? If so what does a fresh batch mix up to in CA, ALK, and MG? For $4 more a bucket through the good DRs I may try a few buckets and see is I can get away without having to add suppliments to all my WC water...

TIA
Casey

Most everyone in the Duluth club uses it now with good results. The calcium comes in at 400 alk at 10.2 Mg can't remember but its right where it should be mixed to SG 1.026.

I think I remember a thread over on RC talking about reef crystals being about the same quality as IO, http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=632394

Looks like people are using IO.

I use RC and won't switch because it's been nothing but good for me so why change?

To maintain 450+ CA , 8 DKH, and 1350+ MG, I use RC, add 2 teaspoons of Seachem Reef Calcium Advantage, and 2 teaspoons of Seachem Magnesium to the freshwater before mixing per 6 gallons. 2 6g water changes on my 58g per week. No CA reactor, or any other additives added to the tank except Kalk in the topoff.

Supposed be one of teh superior salt mixes from what I have heard from people. Spendy though $$$ because you have to order it and I don't think anyone stocks it locally

Yea, from what I am reading it is top of the line. Sounds like it may be worth it to avoid adding supplements etc to WC. I thought some people in the club got some from Dirk?

Tropic Marin Pro wasn't available locally when I called every dang store in the greater metro area about a month ago.

I use RC now and my bucket mixes up to 420ppm Ca, 9 dKH, 1300 Mg, pH 8.0 at 1.026

Ive been using bio sea marine mix because of all the fantastic things i have read about it. A few studies have been done by independent sources "but paid for by them" and it out preformed the other brands by leaps and bounds. I get mine from dirk because no one sells it locally and its nice to support our members : )

link to a test that ron shimik did
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...ture/index.php

there was a third test but i can never seem to find it when i want to see it.

That said , after touring the aquaculture facility in dr foster and smiths i am entertaining the thought of changing to reef crystals. I see that they are using it and it is quite a bit cheaper. Before i was only using about 20-30 gallons of water for changes so price was a none issue but now i will be using like 80-90 a month so price will become an issue i guess. It is also much more widely available. I wouldn't have to get much extra growth from the marine mix for it to be worth paying for it to me but if they perform the same ...... for now i think ill stick with it but I'm tempted to change and if i did it would be to reef crystals

I talked to the guy from Bio Sea Marine when I was at the IMAC. He told me about their facility and processes and it sounded pretty good.
