RBTA Splitting Question

Do all RBTA's split in time? I've had mine a while. It's about 8-10 inches in diameter.

Thanks
Ken

I don't know of anyone who is actually cutting them. When I do get another split, I was going to try it but wasn't going to do it with my only anemone.

Some split more often than others. I get a split on average of 1 every 18months and I've had it for a little over 5 years and it was in captivity for a while before I got it from Souk. Other RBTA split much quicker. Mine seem to most often when under duress but not always so I don't think 50% water change will do it every time.

Have people really cut them like a coral?
I have always read cautions against it.

Mine always split eventually, so I think yours will too..esp at the size it is getting. I never cut them or harm them. I just relocate them and it usually can help initiate a split.

I had a small RBTA that I cut it vertical to the mouth and both halfs healed up just fine. not sure I would try this on a large one......

That's one way to bump up your inventory numbers

Yeah I might try on a small "spare" but I don't think I will try it on my main RBTA any time soon.

it was just a test... I would not do it to a larger show size.
the one I cut in half was maybe 1.5". I figure that the smaller they are the better.

well id have to imagine that a sharp razor would create a better wound than ripping itself apart . i bet it would work on a large one . who wants to be the first to try : )

btw i also hear that putting a rubber band around half of it will work too .
