PVC Ball valve vs Gate valve

I'm wondering what people think about ball valves vs gate valves?

I've read some places that regular ball valves can freeze up on you over time with salts/etc. but I was wondering what people's experience with either has been.

I've finally been plumbing the last couple days so I wanted to know what to do for valves.

TIA

Well gate valves are for fine adjustments. Ball valves are nice for quick closes like if you flood or something.

I've got a ball valve froze up right now. It was for future use and now that I need it, I have to cut it out and replace it. I can still do it though as I have a back up valve to close.
