Pro VS Con of feeder fish.

How good or bad is it to feed my grouper and eel feeders from Petco?

It's pretty much like sentencing them to a death wish... Do yourself and your fish a favor and Use frozen foods from your grocery store.

Skip the feeders... silversides, krill, shrimp, cut up fish fillets, etc. will be much better and safer for them...

I have never fed feeders to mine. (exceept a feeder damsel) LOL It will do a number on your fish and to your water quality. I have to laugh because I know this guy that just throws goldies in for his lion daily......one time he called me and said "why is my amonia so high?" DUH!

Like Jeffie said, I would not use fw feeders. A diet like this can cause health problems with the very worst being premature liver failure.

Go with what jeffie recommended above. If you want him to have an occasional live catch, you might want to check out ghost shimp. I may be wrong, but I think they are ok on occasion.

Its ok if you just feed them once in awhile for a treat. than liver problems or amonia wont be an issue. Also there are very few (if any) freshwater parasites that live in saltwater.

I think I understand the appeal of feeding your fish live feeders, to see them act out thier predetor instincts as they would in the wild...however, FW feeder fish are a bad choice from everything I have read. Marine fish need a diet of items that come from the sea as well, because of the balance of nutrients, among other reasons.

If you live in a costal area, and have access to live shrimp, I would imagine that they would be a good choice to watch your fish feed on live prey...barring any diseases or parasites.

HTH,
Michael

True....but in my experience I have never had a problem feeding goldfish occasionally as a treat (maybe 3 or 4 times a year).

Goldfish cause health problems because they contain the enzyme thiaminase, which (you guessed it) inactivates thiamine. Freshwater Ghost Shrimp, similar to many other FW organisms, do not have the proper levels and proportions of key fatty acids. Occasional feeding of either animal is ok, just dont over do it.
