Plumbing question
Would it be a bad idea to plumb the output of a chiller to the skimmer?
I am feeding all the skimmer, chiller, CR, etc. all off the return pump. Instead of sending some here, and some there, I'd like to piggyback as many of them as possible.
Thoughts?
Suggestions?

No, probably wouldn't hurt, as long as the skimmer isn't pressure rated. Not sure if the coils in the chiller could handle the pressure.
I also think it's a great idea to run as many things as possible off one pump. Good way to keep things from being cluttered. The only thing is that you lose some redundancy and if your pump goes, you could be screwed.

Thanks!, my plans are...
Tee the line from my return pump
Little difficult to follow....
Return Pump to Returns & Chiller (~300GPH)
Chiller to Skimmer (~250GPH) and Carbon (~50GPH)
Carbon to Sump and CR (hoping I can Tee this and have enough pressure to keep the flow going.)

there might be another way to do this and not use the pump at all. i feed my skimmer directly off the overflow box. i also plan to feed the chiller off the overflow box in the near future. depending on how your over flows are set up you could feed the skimmer, chiller, and carbon reactor off the over flow and not even use the pump. i have 4 pumps running on my tank. 1 reture 1 closed loop 1 skimmer and 1 for the ca reactor. this helps keep the costs down and still have the big 400w mh lights running 8 hrs a day.

Kevin,
You DO NOT want to do this!! Your skimmer will fluctuate because the temperature of the skimmate water will be going up and down.....it is called fluid dynamics.
I never thought that my Aviation degree would pay off into the fishkeeping world..hehe

Thanks Greg.... Welcome back!
When feeding the skimmer off the return, is there any concern about being able to keeping constant flow or pressure through the skimmer? Will this have any performance drawbacks?

Only difficult thing about t'ing off the return pump is being able to accurately gauge how much flow your skimmer is geting. By T'ing off the return pump, It should be constant flow and should not fluctuate....
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...was househunting in Houston all weekend...
