plate coral
Good evening all,I bought a ltp coral thurs and put in my reef tank that day.It seems like it comes out more when the lights are out in the tank then when they are on.I even cut down the time the lights are on to 5 hours a day in case it was light sensitive and its still the same.I run 2 white atten and blue atten on one ballast and 2 blue attenic and 1 white atenic on the other ballast 5- ft bulbs. The 2 blues and 1 white come on frist and go off last they are on 1 hour before the 2 whites come on and go off 1 hour after the whites come on then come on again 1 hour before the whites go off and stay on till 1 hour after the whites go off. This is my frist plate coral so i was wondering if this is normal the tenicles are out during the day but they are longer with the lights out any adsvice would be welcome all other corals look good water params are good well have a good eve god bless .sam

Lots of corals extend more to feed at night. However, I'm no expert on plate corals.

Do you have a sample pic of what the coral looks like ? Most Fungia are easy to keep but the long tentacle ones that resemble a anemone do not fare too well. Hopefully, you didn't get that type. While some live long happy lives, most do not....

Sam, you posted in a club forum, from MN no less! I happened to find you when searching for fungia posts.
To post a pic the way I do it, join a site called www.photobucket.com
After you register (it's free) then post a picture to the site. Go to that picture and look under it, and find the Img field. copy that field and then paste it into your reply on reeftank, the pic will come out in your reply.
Any other help, PM me.

Hey, we're smart.
Pretty nice group of people too, IMHO.
Sam, yardboy, keep posting if you'd like. Heck, we've already adopted Loverotties...so what's a couple more?

Why, Thanks!
If you're on TRT, you must be good! And certainly you're more active than any groups in the panhandle of Florida. Sam's kind of new, I didn't know if he realized where he was or not. He lives right down the road from me, and I see he'd asked a question at the end of October, figured I better try and give hims some help.
So, how are things in MN, cold as the dickens I'll bet. The weaher channel makes it sound like it's going to get real severe there tonight. I just put a layer of plastic around our back porch to keep the cold off our orchids, don't think it'd help with the kind of weather ya'll are getting!
I'll be back, otolith. I've followed some of your posts, agree with your reefing philosophies!
Take care, and stay warm!
Oh, and good luck with your Borneman talk, I'm envious of a club with that much coordination!

Hey, Thanks!
It's still above 0, so I don't know what the heck the weather channel is getting all whipped up about. Heck, I ran out to get the mail in my shorts, and I didn't think it was that cold. Was actually kind of nice. Kinda wish we had a little more snow to make things look a little more "clean."
