Overflow/Durso Question

Fritz and I are in the process of building my 120. I will have one center overflow with 28 inches total length. I would like to plumb in two dursos and two return lines. I plan to have 1.5 inch drain bulkheads and 1 inch returns.
With a 1.5 inch bulkhead, should I use a larger sized pipe for the durso. I know that 1 inch bulkheads require a 1.25 inch durso, but not sure if the same holds true for an inch and a half.
My other question is that I am thinking of running a closed loop through this overflow in the future. Can I use one bulkhead, then use a t inside the overflow up to two dursos, just for redundancy? The philosophy here is that if the durso is to get clogged, it will happen in the street ell at the top. Is my logic incorrect and the clog might more than likely occur in the bulkhead?

Thanks for the help.

Brandon

In my system I have several styles of these standpipes.
One uses a 1" bulkhead, but I step up the 1.5" for the Durso. Runs twice the flow that way. I was surprised at the amount of difference.
On my 1.5" bulkheads with Durso standpipes, I stepped up to 2" pipe. Works great. Not sure it was required though.

I also have 2 - 1.5" bulkheads running with "Stockman" style standpipes, but I just used 1.5" for those, no step up in size. Those work great as well.

Also... I see no advantage to using twin standpipes to one bulkhead. If you're worried about 1.5" getting clogged with something at the ell, step it up to 2", and put an egg crate "screen" into the opening of the 90. one 2" ought to be smaller than 2 - 1.5" plus a tee. Simpler too.

It's not quite the answer you wanted, but it's a bit more info.

without a picture or drawing, not for sure what you mean by using one of them for your closed loop. You don't want the closed loop to be drawing water directly from the overflow, you can use the overflow to help hide it but have the closed loop draw directly from the tank. You will quickly find out that it will be next to impossible to keep bubbles from getting sucked into the closed loop if drawing water from the overflow itself if your pushing any significant gph through the closed loop.

Thanks guys,

David - I would plan to come up through the bulk head, then 90 through the overflow into the tank with strainer in the tank, right?

Grim - Thanks for the info, it certainly helps. If I were to only use one 1.5" bulkhead, then step up to 2" on the durso my concerns for clogs would certainly be diminshed. Should I still have a plan for redundancy? Maybe a backup that could be a smaller bulkhead with just a straight pipe so if I start hearing a flushing sound from the tank, I know to shut the pumps down, but still be able to handle some flow?

That's what I love about this group. All kinds of different ideas. It certainly makes for some creative thinking. You all are awesome. I can't wait for water!!!!
