OT: Windows Media Center PC or Windows XP 64bit?
Which one would you choose, if you had a 64bit processor?

Yes, it is...
However, there has been some driver issues, and I'm not sure if it has been proven to be faster being most applications are 32bit applications.
I also like some of the features of the MC, like ripping all the kids DVD's to disk, and let them watch them from the computer but on the TV...

^^ that is true, but i think once the kinks in XP64 are worked out and more programs migrate to run in 64 bit that buying XP64 now would not be a waste of money

From what my roomate told me the new windows won't be able to run except on a 64bit system. Like an Athlon 64 processor. I have a media center PC and it is nice, but you can also buy the software seperately for a different computer.

He is probably talking about Longhorn. Longhorn is the codename for the new OS from Microsoft that is supposed to have the client version released sometime in 2006. There is a beta version currently out, but the problem with it now is that many drivers have not yet been written in 64 bit. Which is also a problem for XP-64.
I'm interested in trying it out, but as soon as all of my games are supported to run in 64-bit, i'm finally going to fully move over to Linux.

Yes, Basically my HP Media Center has hardware installed in the back that allows it to connect with tv with s-video cords. It also does tv recording etc and I'm sure that is a software program of some sort.

I know they changed the name... but I forgot what it will be now. Some how I have been religated to the kitchen over the years and the wife has taken over being "up" on the computer stuff...
