FYI - Video drivers are notorious for causing all kinds of problems.

I'm sure you're all waiting on the edge of your seats wondering what is going on with my computer.

Well, I had Lars come over to see if he could fix it. He's a geeky (takes one to know one, I know) kinda guy, and he didn't realize it, but he figured it out. When my computer would boot up, it would sometimes say, "system failure due to _________" I had no idea what _________ was, but it was clear as a bell when he was here. It was due to "overclocking." Well, I have NEVER overclocked the computer (wouldn't even know how). In fact, my bios won't let me run the chip (AMD XP 2400+) faster than the 2000Mhz it's supposed to. So I slowed it down to 1500Hz, and things run great. Still haven't found my old email, but at least my computer now will boot on the first try. I guess I'm going to try and buy a new chip, although they are becoming rare (wait, it's only 3 years old! ), and so their price is actually going up a little. Guess I'll call Tranmicro in the am and see what their prices run. Otherwise I think I'll just run this at 1500Hz and do a complete overhaul in the next year or so.

www.newegg.com is a great site for parts, I don't even want to know how much I've spent with them over the years. Plus, their shipping is pretty reasonable. Good luck

I second the newegg endorsement. They have the 2800+ for $125, not the best price for an "old" chip, but cheaper than upgrading the MB, memory, and the CPU.

Froggy--thanks! That'll save me $100 from the price for a 3200+ at Tranmicro.
