OT: What a rotten day....

Today was one of those days that you wish you wouldn't have....

Our 2 year old Husky/German Shepard Mix had 3 major seizures within 10 hours. Had to take him to the vet.... $250.00
We have to put him permanently on medication

During his seizures he soiled a few things...had to wash it.

Then of course the washer breaks...had to buy a new washer..$700

TRT messed with me all day which wasn't much fun either....all in all..bad day !

Now I am the "Poor schmuck of the week"

Doesn't it suck when everything seems to go wrong all at once? Especially those days like you are talking about when you end up spending $1000 on stuff you are unprepared for.

Make that 4 seizures in 11 hours.... he just had another one
This time he ended up with temporary blindness for a few minutes. We gave him a second valium pill that supposed to help calm him down.

This really bites and it is starting to get to me...you feel so helpless and the poor animal is scared to death.

Hopefully the medication will kick in soon !

Sorry to hear about your rotten day. If it makes you feel better our 4 year old dog just started having seizures. He seems to have 2 a day or two apart and then a week with nothing. After the 5 or 6th seizure we started him on Phenobarbital. If my 19 month old son hasn't contributed enough to his 10 lb weight gain over the last year, the medication has increased his apetite, thirst and makes him more drowsy. After filling his bowl for the third time the other night the wife and I decided it was time to stop free feeding him, and just one bowl in the morning and one bowl at night. Last night she came home the second time to a house full of little messes.
Our washing machine still works despite the several extra loads we have had to do lately because of seizures but I still feel your pain.

If it makes you feel any better my neighbor's dog as a kid had seizures (he was a golden mix) and with medication lived to be thirteen.

I hope your days start looking better. Good luck with the dog

Sorry to hear about your Husky/German Shepard Mix. We had a older Malamute that was a retired sled dog that had seizures too. The med's work pretty well once in the dogs system, so hopefuly all will be well with him/her.

Just be sure to not put a couple greater than/less than signs around it.

Give the meds a couple days. I'm sure your dog didn't get a "loading dose" of the meds, so it'll take a couple days to kick in.

Hey, didn't you just get engaged this week?

Frogbone, hopefully things will work out with the dog. Our dog is going on 13 and can barely get around. Look on the bright side, you hopefully have many more years (fingers crossed). Hard not to tear up a bit thinking about losing ours. Can't hardly remember life before her. Older than most of the kids. I really hope things work out for you, dogs are great.

Unhappy

Sorry to here a hurt dog.But maybe this will make you feel better. My one rottie(8yr) is dieing of canser and our other rottie(10yr) jumped off the bed and messed up her spine and Her back legs weren't working so I have to lift Her back end up with a towle around the back of Her stomack. The medication causes Her to urinate a lot Like every three hrs. so what is sleep and when I get home from work theres a nice big poddles on the rug all over.I'm over tired when I get home and then got to help Her and clean the carpet and try and spoil the other one that any day will have to put Her to sleep!

i have a 10yr old husky that has seizures too. it scares you the first time it happens. just make sure you have the dogs liver checked every so often. the meds are hard on the liver. it will take 24 hrs for the meds to truly start to work. but once they are in the system you pup shouldnt have seizures very much. i dont think my dog has had a seizure it a couple of years. and the one he did have was very mild. he just looked tired and grogy with a couple of shakes like he was cold. good luck with him i hope the meds kick in soon.

Wolfgang, I feel for you. Man, if my dog (Great Dane) had that problem the medication alone would break me, I'd have to sell the reef to get enough money for the meds.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the kind words guys !
Jake ended having two more seizures last night. They are very violent but from what I read the dog does not feel any pain. We noticed that he now has temporary blindness after the seizures which scares the heck out of him (and us).
We ran out of towels to clean up after him and I won't be able to get a truck to pick up the new washer until tonight or tomorrow

I haven't had a minute of sleep all night and decide to come in to work and get some stuff done and maybe leave early to take care of stuff at home.
The whole thing is really getting to the misses. She is about to have a nervous breakdown. As she is the kind of person that always wants to help it is very difficult for her to watch jake go through these seizures time and again without being able to do anything for him.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention .... I quit smoking last week.....talk about bad timing to do that !!

Congrats on quiting smoking. If you can get thru the dog problems, TRT thread killing problems, and getting married without starting again, then you are a much better man then me!
