Cool fish.

Freshwater angelfish are among my favorite fish. Back before I had an all-consuming job and kids, I was a pretty serious anglefish breeder....there were periods when I had close to 1000 of them at at time in various stages of growing up, and a dozen or so breeding pairs. My special interest was in producing really high quality wild type angels (angels with good natural coloration and good body form and finnage have become very hard to find in the last few decades.....lack of care on the part of breeders in surely part of this).

I almost lost my breeding lines recently because I have not had a lot of time for the fish at home, but my kids and I have been raising up a spawn again after not raising up any young for far too many years. These are from a very nice pair that are a few generations removed from a cross between a domestic fish and a wild altum-like male that I had about 15 years ago. It is very exciting to have young angels again, but a lot of work.....to raise up really good quality angels I feel it is important to do large water changes in the rearing tanks on the order of 50-75% every day or two.

They are in a mix tank with some cichlids. so far so good, as the angels are Lg. I have only had them a few weeks, but they come up to me for food every time I walk past the tank.
Makes me think of doing a planted tank with Angels....Relaxing to look at!
