OT: does anyone have skype?

Can you tell me anything about it???

I got a very disturbing phone call, and it could only be traced back to skype which is some kind of computer interface for calling people, virtually untraceable.

Creepy perv call, the worst part though is that in order to add a number to skype you need to know the persons name and phone number, so essentially they need to know who I am, and add me to their contact list. the only way the person can be tracked down is by getting them to give you their skype ID.

Not true. With the "skype out" option you can call any land or mobile phone number. I use sype, and skype-out everyday. I could just put in any number like +16515551234 and call that number without knowing the contact information of that number. No different then any other phone service in that sense.

Of course the Skype-Out option is not free. (Costs about .0013 per minute)

Did the guy call you on a land line, or your computer? If he called you on your normal phone (work, home, or mobile) He could only call using Skype-Out. If he called you on your Skype, make sure you do not have your skype set to "Skype Me" mode.

Yeah, what he said.

Skype can be very useful. I use it for my international calls, the other end has Skype as well. My wife and I use it to call one another between offices (mine is upstairs, her's is on the main level of our house). I also have a Vonage line for dialing "off-net" calls. I can make unlimited calls to anyone in North America and my contacts over seas for less than $40 a month. The best part, they all think I'm in Vegas. (But they could check with Vonage and find out where I really am.)

Yeah, I have used both Skype and Vonage extensivly. I would not go back to Vonage. The call quality seems better on Skype, and I can call almost anywhere in the world for the same price. I go thru abou $10 a month on skype-out, and that gets about 10 hours of international calling.
