Ot....

Does anyone here do landscaping for a living or as a side job? I need to get a lawn installed sometime soon and I am looking for quotes. I already have a few guys local to me who are stopping by this week. But I thought if anyone here does it I would give them a shot too

Basically, I have a lot that's just under 2 acres, It has a ton of tall weeds (literally 4'tall+) and will need to be scraped out. I want to go with seed + cover, not sod or hydroseed. Also I would like 2 retaining walls built with either stone or block. Trees and shrubs may come into play depending on how much the yard + walls cost.

Shoot me a PM if you are able to help me out and would come as far east as New Richmond.

Check out Blake Landscaping in Hudson. I don't have the number, but they should be in the book. The owners name is Jeremy, and I know him pretty well. He likes to do retaining walls.

He does it all. Last summer he did my backyard. Took out about 5 trees, regraded and hydroseeded it. Took about 8 hours total.

BTW, why not hydroseed? I am happy with the grass so far. It is not as thick and nice as sod (yet), but should be in another year of so. The price was about half as much as sod, and grass started comming up after about 5 days.

I have heard mixed reviews on hydroseeding. I know that for the area I need to cover it would probably be the easiest. But I have also heard that it has a tendency to wash away easier if the rains get heavy....easier than seed+hay. (or so I have been told) Cost is also a factor...

I have never heard that about hydroseed. In fact, I thought that was an advantage to hydroseeding. (It does not wash away.) I did not do it, but I know you can hydroseed yourself. They have the equiptment up at the Tru-Value Rental Center in Hudson.

Hey how about getting a few bags of Seed setup a BBQ with a few Cases or keg of Beer and I am sure you can get all planted in no time. I am sure many members would be willing to help. Not sure how well with all the beer in them.

Something I am looking forward to doing at the new house is retaining walls and landscaping! I love doing it, it's relaxing, almost as relaxing as Reef keeping. If you hydroseed, cover it with straw, that will keep it together if it rains really hard. I havn't decided what I am going to do for grass yet, probably seed it heavily myself, I just need to get myself on a lot of good black dirt for 3" topsoil.

Yep, that's what I do. I run three crews - one does nothing but retaining walls all summer, the second does excavation/grading work and the third does demolition( houses, farms etc.). Be happy to come and check things out for you. Feel free to give me a call at 612-369-4698. Talk to you later. Stan

Stan, do you have a good way of picking up/clearing a bunch of old landscape rock? I'd like to see it recycled, if at all possible.

It can't be recycled without being screened. By the time you screen it it's cheaper to buy it new. If it could be done I would have a yard full of it from my customers. Picking up the rock and getting rid of it is pretty easy though. We just use the old stuff as fill.
