Oh, MS Gurus

Anyone know how to type the degree symbol?
And, if not type, then how can I put them in my excel and word files?

Try holding the ALT key down and enter "0186" on the number pad, then release the ALT key.

I actually prefer ALT 248 for the degree symbol over ALT 0186. Here are examples:

ALT 0186 = º
ALT 248 = °

Not a huge difference, but the 248 looks more round and 0186 more oval...

My laptop has a number pad superimposed over the 789, uio, jkl, and m keys. These work the same for the ALT ### functions to generate symbols (after I turn on the numpad feature).

From the Word and Excel help menu on how to insert a symbol:
  1. Click where you want to insert the symbol.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Symbol, and then click the Symbols tab.
  3. In the Font box, click the font that you want.
  4. Double-click the symbol that you want to insert.
  5. Click Close.
