new tank, input and stuff needed

hey all I need some ideas
I am going to be setting up a new tank for my duaghter, she needed a science project that went on for the rest of the school year, so I thought this would be cool for here, she is 11 - 12 next week.for the actual science part I thought we would have dirk or ?? order me some uncured live rock right from the ocean and start from there

anyway I have a 24" 30 gal. tank and metal stand that I think I will be using.
I think I got lights 2-96w pc's( from spazz ) and now a skimmer from (tico mike's) or a prism

should I use a sump on it ?? if not HOB or canister ???
are those lights ok to use or ?? eventulay like to have the eaiser corals or softies in it. I have an extra MH light but its a 250w one ??
what kind of pumps would it need for circulation any ??

I am trying to make it up to the swap so if anybody has anything to sell for this bring it along or post it please and thanks
