NEW New Tank (Post Flood) Long Post
Well the worst nightmare has happened at our house. I woke Friday morning and just so happened to go to the basement. Only to discover 4" of water left in my 140. The rest of course was on the floor. Apparently sometime in the early am a seam blew out. It must have happened not long before I found it. Because, after thinking the total worst, the corals seem to still be alive. So, off to making water like mad I went. I can't imagine what the smell would have been like if I had gone to work.
I am SO thankful for the wonderful reef club friends I have. I owe a HUGE thanks to Tracy, Sheryl, Derek and Greg. If it had not been for them I probably would have lost everything. They helped clean up our basement so it could dry. They cleaned out the old (piece of S***) tank so we could thow it in the garage. Thanks for baby sitting my corals guys.
So, now we had to find a new tank. Luckly Greg offered to build me a new one right away. By 12am last night we had the new one all glued up ready for routing. By 4pm this after noon we were done. A NEW 135gal.
I am hoping to have the new system up by Mon night. We are tearing out the rug that was immediately under the tank and putting down tile. It will be white 12" tile with a 4" white and decorative fish tile border.
I don't know of any other group of people whom you could ask for this kind of help. Our reef club has some of the best people anywhere.

o man that really sucks!
i heard about this from jerry yesterday. i have had small floods in the living room where my desplay tank is, and i cant even imagine what a mess my tank would make if it split a seam. well hats off to greg for making a tank for you in such a hurry. and such a nice tank too. it almost makes me want to tear my tank down and have greg make me an acrylic tank just so i can have drilled overflows. i hope greg comes to the may meeting just so i can talk acrylic tanks with him.
by the way what brand of tank was it? please dont say aga. he he he

That is just crappy luck! But wow, good story! It really makes you value those friends made in the club. Sorry that this happened to you, but on the brigth side you got a pretty new tank! (Greg does NICE work)! Hope you are happy with the new tank.

Wow Bob, so sorry to hear that. It's all of our's worst nightmare...
I hope there wasn't any real damage to your house.
I agree, folks like those are hard to find. My hat is off to them. Seems like everyone needs to know a good lawyer, a good mechanic, and a good acrylic worker these days, eh?

Let me tell you. When Bob woke me up on Friday Morning telling me what had happened, we were at his house by 9am with buckets, heaters, powerheads, water, etc. and Krispy Kreme's for breakfast. That started 2 long days of work(even longer for Bob). We started transferring corals and fish because they still looked good. I would say most of his live stuff will pull through. After that, I started calling the LFS's to see if anyone had a new 135 or comparable to fit a 72" X 18" stand and canopy. Bob's significant other would not allow another used tank into the house for good reason. After striking out there, I started calling around for some acrylic. Black acrylic is hard to come by and we had no luck there. So we had to scrap the plans for a black back(Bob is going to paint the back). We started tank construction at 5pm on Friday..gluing was done by midnight. We started on Saturday at 11am and he took the tank home at about 4pm.
Like Bob said, another good reason to have a close-knit reef club and lots of good friends..

The tank looks great! Can't wait to see the tile job. There is a good reason why I tiled half of my basement. haha
LMK if you need to borrow the turboflotor, or any MH lamps/ballasts until the new tank is up and running.
