MOving

We're moving this summer, and I just wanted to get a few opinions on what to do with my tank. I hate breaking it down and selling the livestock, as there are quite a few corals I could probably not find, yet afford after we buy a house. The only problem is my tank may need to make 2 moves within a couple months. Would this be a big problem, as long as I kept as much water as possible, and kept the sandbed submerged during the move? Or do I try to find other people's tanks to store my corals in while the tank settles each time, for a few days? Thanks for any input.

I would say better off finding a home for your prize corals, so you don't loose them. other then that I see no problems.

I have plenty of space if you need to save something

Mike,

I've never moved a reef tank. I have however, moved a heavily planted freshwater tank a few times. From that experience alone (and I'm sure it's still far easier than a reef tank) I would say to place your corals with someone you feel good about. I can't imagine moving a tank twice in 2 months. If it's looking like you have to move twice, why not keep your sand in a rubbermaid type container with a power head in the meantime to keep it simple to deal with.

best bet would be to have some of your fellow reefers baby sit your corals for you

(I can prolly babysit a couple for you)

Mike, My 50g VHO lit tank is pretty bare since moving most of the stuff to the church tank.

I could hold some of the more prized ones that you don't want to let go....

I would also highly recomend having someone hold onto them during the move. Not only does it give them a better environment, but it also takes a little pressure off of you and allows you to get the tank set back up correctly instead of rushing through it. Good luck with it!

It looks like you have plenty of volunteers, but if you need additional space I can hold some SPS. Softies & LPS won't like my flow (146 X ).
