More LFS rumore ?
Went to Sea Dreams teh other day during normal business hours and the place was closed. "Open" sign was lit but nobody there.
Today I stopped by and it was closed again. Now there is a sign saying "Sea Dreams will be closed temporarily from 7/14 on. " No indication on how long it will be closed or why.
I heard before that there was something going on...anyone know what?

Wolfgang,
I would have thought they could have survived on your business alone!

That was super funny....
I didn't think that place would last long. Nobody there knows what the heck is going on. Can't call there and they tell you something costs x amount of $$ and then you get there and the girl decides that's too low of a price and she should mark it up.
That's probably no the cheapest retail location either for doing such low volumes. Everytime I have ever been there, there might have been one other person there looking. Everytimg I go to SF or WOF those places are packed. Shoot I see more customers at Jerry's then I ever do at Sea Dreams...

Seriousely though .. I haven't been there since just after my surgery and the salt controversy.
Maybe they have a going out of business sale soon and the salt is to be had for $40 instead of $50

I hated the fact they didn't have someone on with knowledge, or any pricing. I mean at least have some pricing on the corals. And they were never helpful. They just sat behind the desk, you would have to go ask 3 or 4 times for help...hated that.

It really depends on who was at the store. 'JD" really knew his stuff, he is a Marine Biologist and was very helpful. The other guy is a freshwater expert. Mary..well.. she had no clue about anything and the other people I really don't know.

I think i'd be lost if i didnt find this forum and jerry. Many of stores i've been to i got shaddy/bad advice. believe it or not, got a good deal on my actual tank at aquatropics, but since terrible service and lousy advice, so i'll never go back. Fish and feathers or whatever it is, scary to go in, two yippee dogs that follow you and a **** bird that dive bombed me. Plus nothing was labeled. BUT i suppose i could rant about other LFS for days.

Whenever, I'm around 85th in Brooklyn Park I stop into the Fish-n-Friends that PinkPanther mentions. Yes, I walk out of there in about 1 minute about 8 out 10 times. However, if looking for fairy wrasses they are usually under priced from most LFS and you occasionally find a nice coral, or an occasional deal. Just enough it keeps me coming back. He knows me by now so I usually not a big deal for me to ask $$ but definately can see it as a downside to a new customer. However, I will say, price quotes have been consistant at Fish-n-Friends. Unlike Sea Dreams where the price quotes change. I have had two seperate occassion where at lunch time quoted one price, then come back after work to pick it up ( becuase they won't hold it for you ) and the price has doubled in the 4 hours. That's when I stopped going to SeaDreams altogether. I was getting my courage up to try again after Keith and Wolfgang said they were starting to mark prices but looks like I never got there in time.

i know what you guys mean on the bad advise here in rochester there is not one pet store where you get good advise at petco it looks like the people have never owned a fish tank and when you ask them a question they just go pick up a book and then at fish and pets they just try to get you to buy whatever they can and never giv the same advise twice

mike_862005,
Fish and Pets is, frighteningly, the overall better pet store of the two. They have some slight clue about freshwater. Slight. However, I've had a lower % of livestock fish deaths from Petco so far. Both stores occaisionally have massive die offs that tell you they don't know what they are doing. The corals should be displayed under at least some actinic light, but F&P puts them under cheapo NO plain yellow flourescents as near as I can tell, then charges twice the going rate.
If you need some advice, I recommend either asking the club via forums, or making a list of what you want to do and then come to one of the meetings. People will give advice on the best ways to do it. If you want to make certain that everybody helps you out, offer to host a meeting.
