Moray
Just bought a small moray from SF yesterday afternoon. Eventually put him into his tank at about 6pm, and went to bed at 2:30am. Woke up this morning to my wife saying, "Sam, you probably want to come out here."
Needless to say, the eel was on the carpet--dry as a bone. I had that cover on tighter than tight--I thought. Still not sure how he got out. I haven't seen a "salt trail" of dried tank water anywhere on the tank. Puzzling.

That's too bad, was he in a reef? Didn't know that they were that big of escape artists.

Yeah, they will find any little crack and do their best to end up getting through it...brings me back to the good ol' LFS days. We ended up putting about 20lbs of weight on the tank tops to keep them from jumpin out.

Graham--Yep, I hear ya man. Last night I sat there inspecting everything for possible routes out of the tank, since I was aware of their proclivity to escape. Once I was satisfied, I left well enough alone. He looked content anchored in the LR. Anyhow, live and learn. I won't let it happen again.
At least I didn't buy the golden moray SF had! Would have been costly.
Otolith--He was placed in an empty system w/ LR. He was the sole inhabitant. I "balanced" the tank's capacity to house a small eel ahead of time by keeping three medium clowns in the tank. Once I got the eel, I put the clowns back in the reef tank. All for nothing.

TwinsGuy--You work at SF?! I didn't know that, otherwise I would have asked for you. I'm not sure I remember exactly what you look like though. I met too many people at the meeting I went to.

Oh boy its bad enough that when I go in SF I look at the customers and wonder if they are on here now I am going to be looking at the employees! I am goin to have to get a babysitter and start coming to the meetings to put faces to names! I am sorry about your eel too. My fishies are like my kids only I think the fish eat better than we do

A little late now but moray eels can live quite awhile out of water if that happens again throw him back in the tank (even though he looks like carpet jerky). Sometimes they will recover. Had this happen to my snowflake once a long time ago. Was sure he was dead! But not the case (he is about 2 feet long now).

I'll have to keep that in mind for the future, Harv. It would've been worth a shot.
