Moorish Idol

I just came home from Premier Pets in Ramsey and thought I would share this.....they just got a huge shipment of fish in (most were still in bags) but the guy did come over to get us when he released the moorish idol that they let into the tank......it was sooo big and beautiful!! Of course, my little boy was excited to see "Gill"
Just thought I would share as I have never seen one of those before...in case anyone else wants to check it out!

Yeah...I know they are not a good fish to have in a tank and I felt bad for the outcome that this one would probably have, BUT it was very cool to see it in person. I couldn't believe the size of it!
I don't get down to SF very often as that is quite a drive for us to go and bum around....

I saw those at SF..one of the guys who worked there even commented he was so surprised they got them in....They won't ever make it, he said. Sounds like they are just impossible to keep, but they are totally breathtaking. It made me wonder if Finding Nemo is now increasing the demands for these fish as well as the clowns (and of course Dori)
...I have never seen 4 in a store at once before!!

I bought an adult pair of Idols from a club member in June of 2001.
They lived together happily for about a year. They really liked each other, everytime I looked in the tank they were swimmimg together. Then one day one turned on the other and harassed it into the death waltz. The remaining one thrived for another 12-18 months before it perished (see avatar). I never did figure out what killed him he was healthy , fat and colorful until he died.
I think the secret with those guys is getting them started on captive food ,once you do that the hardest part is over.
Also they need sponge in their diet (like angels do). I had ran out of angel formula about 2 weeks before he died, so it is possible that was a contributing factor.

I just bought a moorish idol to feed to my octopus.

It promises to be a colorful and magnificent battle of wills.

Yeah, crossroads pet center just got a moorish idol. I witnessed them feeding it flake food and brine shrimp. It ate the flake food but preferred the brine shrimp. If I didn't have my yellow tang, I am sure I would've bought it. I just dont want any wars going on in my aquarium. But man, what a beautiful fish. $74 for it there. Is that overpriced?

you can pick them up for about 30 at a wholesaler so for only 100% mark up thats ok.

Yeah, I just checked out some online fish stores and its $30. BUT, including shipping its about the same. Crossroads is notorious for outragious 100% markups. I mean, they have no competition, . Even if that fish all over was the same cost, i wouldn't even buy it.

most of the fish at crossroad pets have 150-250% mark up. Their corals are the worst with about 250% mark up. My experiences at crossroads is that if you haggle them on the prices you can usually get them to come down about 100%.

I bought a sun polyp for $23 (org. $58) and a russeli lion for $25 (org. $43) in the past. it all depends on which clerk is there.
