Meetings/Frag swaps
We want to try to do two meetings a month to try to cut down on the size of the meetings people have in their homes. We want to take a minute and let EVERYONE know that ANYONE is welcome to host a meeting; small tank, big tank, empty tank, freshwater tank, multiple tanks....
It was voted in that anyone hosting a meeting would get an absentee ballot for the election at the next business meeting. Please list your interest here and email me your tank specs and months you are willing to host so I can match you up with a similiar set-up. In doing two meetings a month, the host will still pick the day they want and any "qualifiers". example- Please have frag trading done by 7pm so we can start the meeting, please bring a dish to pass, no trading, etc. etc.
We are looking for the following:
Someone to host a meeting when they are ready to aquascape. We would like David G. to demonstrate the rod method of aquascape on a tank when a lot of people can watch, and when done, see the result. Obviously, the person hosting would have final say on design.
People to host meetings. If we are going to do two meetings a month, we need volunteers. Keep in mind, meetings are as much or more to do with just getting together and BSing than the tank. No tank too small, no tank too large.
People to give demonstrations on a specified topic. Tutmos (not to pick on you), could talk on acro flatworms, David G. on lighting or aquascapes, someone on plumbing, redundancy, surge basins or turf scrubbers (otolith ), fragging and mounting, etc. etc.

By the way, here's the next couple months.
November-Loralie will host the meeting, HFG the frag swap
December- I need to talk to Jeffie about the Rainforest Cafe so we can host a "holiday" meeting/dinner there. Plan to bring the better half/kids and do some shopping. Maybe we can do this in the first half of the month. I guess I will host the December meeting unless someone else has it.
January- Need to find out...
I will start a Calendar sticky in the member's only section as things get updated so you can refer to that.

tico-
i know its a ways off but i would like to host a lil meeting next summer (south minneapolis). summer so that the crowd can spill out onto the lawn, and because the attendance is usually more modest.
i have a 58g RR mixed (mostly sps) tank-hopefully things will have grown up a bit by then...
reefmania sump
deltec skimmer
paworld arsenal of pumps
OM squirt and revolutions on CL
SLS maristar lighting
also have a potter's angel/grow-out/anemone tank
another deltec skimmer
lumenarc mini lighting
if you need more specs let me know-these are just some of the more unique components

Question - how does a meeting differ from a frag swap?
Why the need to create a separate entity?

the idea was to curb the people only coming to meeting to trade. just something new we are going to try and see how it works.

Mike I can do a summer month also, Perhaps a camp over type situation...I have plenty of room for tents campers etc. But I do have a small house and the tank itself is in a very small room. Dont know how many would be interested in the 2hr drive but since I know you are looking for commitment...Lets say august if that works...
BTW my specs can be found from my signature. Allthough alot will be changing soon

g-i think the idea is to hold " frag swaps" in places that can handle the traffic. to encourage trading/sales at these events but not to ban it at regular old "meetings." in this way maybe "meeting" attendance might not get out of control because the trading/biz stuff might have another venue to take place in. the hope is that this might allow people like myself with smaller homes to host a "meeting." there is no rule saying that a "meeting" cannot also be a "frag swap." things were left pretty loose...if this works great, if not we'll try something else.

I would be willing to do a weekend meeting next spring / summer. I just gotta have time to get my tank stocked. Also, it would depend on weather people would be willing to drive out here.....
Also, a weedend because I live in the ****ed boonies Nobody wants to drive to New Richmond on a weekday night.

I'd be glad to host one in Summer months as people don't like Winter driving, and I have plenty of area to camp and have a fire and whatnot to stay a night and have fun!
Seriously, if people would drive the miles, any season of the year, I'll host one! But would understand completely if it would be a no-go for you all.
