There is a restriction of some sort after the air inlet, either the outlet for the skimmer isn't letting out enough water and creating backpressure, or I don't know what else could be wrong.. thats the only thing I can think of!

What pump did you replace? Was it a lower GPH pump?

Do you have the venturi attatchment that goes with the 1200? I don't know how it could squirt water out of if since it's supposed to hook on where the water is sucked into the pump. Do you have a pic of how it's hooked up?

if the venturi kit is what came with it from the store then yes, just the airline and the screw adjustment, should there have been some other parts? I can take a pic tommorow, it flow 50 more gph than the one i had. so.... nothing looks retricted, all of the piping is twice the size of the pump outlet so.....

There is another venturi attachment that doesn't come with the pump that you have to buy. http://www.saltycritter.com/pumps/ma...enturi-kit.htm $3.99 from these guys, or you can shop around. The difference is that this one hooks into the input side, where the input screen goes, instead of the output end. That way it sucks air into the pump and chops it up with impeller. There are other mods that you can do as well to a Maxi-jet, like drilling holes into the impeller blades to chop the air/water mix into finer bubbles, or the bioball mod also which turns it into a little oceanrunner style pump.

Anybody have one of those kits laying around, or know where to get one locally?

If you have the powerhead too deep in the water it will push out water instead of sucking in air. Lift it up some and see what happens.

I have one of those kits I tried with a MJ1200 on a BakPak IIR and it did not work as well as putting the MJ air intake fitting piece directly into the intake of the MJ. You have to cutoff the two little round tabs on the plastic air fitting and push it in the MJ intake from that direction. Again, if the pump is too deep in the water, it won't suck air.

You are more than welcome to have my venturi kit for $3.99
