Math gurus look here please
Okay, so my SG is 1.027, and I want it down to 1.025, I did a water change last night and added 14 gallons of 1.020 and still didn't bring it down, I've been having 1.027 for quite a while. So how much FW do I need to put in my tank to knock it down? I have a 125 and a 30gal sump, about 22 gallons of water in the sump and I have 200+ lbs of LR so I dunno how much water I actually have.
Where is a good palce to start? Thanks,
-Skip

Skip I dont think you really want to change the sg so fast like that. What I do to slowly change it is the following:
SG High- Skim wet until sG reaches level wanted, it may take a couple of weeks but at least you won't shock the fish and inverts
SG Low- shutoff autotop off of FW and mix a batch of 1.022 water to top off with on a daily basis. In my system it took a week to change from 1.023 to 1.025.
I don't necesarily think that it being a little high is that big of a deal as long as there aren't large swings in short periods of time. What are you measuring with? I have had the red sea brand show different readings on 2 different tools. one will read 1.025 and the other at 1.027. I had winger check mine with a refractometer to see where it really was for reference.

Why do you want to lower it? I have been running my reef at 1.027 for over a year.

Actually all marine life is subject to quick salinity shifts in the wild. Along with rather quick temperature swings. I believe spazz was telling me that as bornerman mentioned it when they were talking last week.

He uses a refractometer, and isn't 1.025 or 26 ideal? A couple weeks ago mine was at .
.029 and One of my brittle stars legs were breaking off. I added a 5 gal pail mixed at 1.023 to my 72gal and didn't notice any pissed off corals or inverts... I'm guessing that my actual water volume is 55 gallons.

I use a refractometer, I've been at 1.027 for like a couple months, but thought maybe I should bring it back down to 1.025, if it's not that big of a deal, then I won't worry too much, everyone seems happy in my tank.

He has a huge collection of different spiderplants and cactus and stuff. My favorite are the twisted ficus trees.

Wow, he can keep ficus trees alive! That's pretty good. They can be extremely touchy plants.
