If start up another group order, I'm definately in the market for one.

While T5s have been a nice little experiment and was very pleasantly surprised just how well acroporas can do with them, I am ready to go back to a 400W 20K Radium or XM and plan to use one of those reflectors. Of all my lighting configurations I have done over the years, nothing beats the 400W 20K Radiums for overall lighting. Because I love the church tank so much, I do have a rekindled love for Softies and LPS which will be the main tank. But I like acropora enough I know I could never be without some sort of tank sps dominant tank no matter how big or small.

hey dave...hey everyone...

depending on the size of the tank-you might consider the LA3 mini. i bought one for my little anemone tank and its great! its also significantly smaller and will fit over an 18" deep tank. its about 14.5" square.

...if you insist i will post some pics. geez back off! there will be a thread popping up shortly...

Is there much of a price difference between them mini and the regular ?

For me, I was thinking of customising the tank to the biggest 1 reflector would sufficiently cover. Guessing approximatly 30X30 type size. Tank will probably not be a show type tank. Just something for me to play around with as I just can't seem to stay away from acropora cold turkey. The softy/lps with VHOS will be the show tank.

David, I think once again you have displayed the kind of wisdom that has earned you a rock solid reputation as a level headed, extremely intelligent guy with an impeccable taste for the truly beautiful creations we have been blessed with in our oceans.

The full size ones on my 75 hang off the back about 3-4 inches. the spread is much better than the spiderlights IMO. Dave I think you would be just fine with 250w instead of the 400w. When I make the switch to the bigger tank down the road the it will be about 25 inches tall and still plan on using the 250w bulbs and ballasts.

Typical politician JK I like the softies too but just can't mix all three together and sleep at night. For crying out loud you got me hooked on these lps corals

I've had 250Wers in the past both DE and SE bulbs. From my experience, I was the happiest with the 400W 20K Radiums ( XMs where very close ). The extra wattage really seems to make a difference when going with the higher K bulbs and with 250s both DE and SE haven't found a bulb that quite duplicates the look of the 400W Radium.

the price difference isn't very significant...go with that 30x30 tank-with the LA3-regular-that'll be cool!

Hey TG - where's the pic of the LA3 :-)
I'm thinking of putting 2 of the LA3 on a 75 g with no canopy.
Think that would work?
