I had seen a post somewhere that used a DJ light controller as a wave maker. It's what they use to create the hypnotic make-you-shake-your-booty lighting, and has 6 or so outlets and I think runs a couple different on/off patterns. They were pretty cheap if I remember. Don't know too many more details, but do a search here and over at reefcentral and you should find it.
I had thought about using it sometime eventually.

Found one. I had seen a different model before that was $20 IIRC but you get the idea and they all do the same thing essentially. Just look into the exact specs b4 you buy.
Here's the controller for $30:

Here's the thread over on RC:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...=diy+wavemaker
Looks pretty cool. For 30 bucks you get a programable chase (1-15mins) on either 2 or 4 channels, plus it's got a sound activated feature. :P
Let us know how it works out if you go this route.

yep, ive seen that one before and herd about it. seems to be a good price. I can see $30 for switching 2 powerheads but 100+ for one is more than i'm willing to spend for the red sea one. I might concider the strip, not the coralife one but the other strip that alternates.

JS - I am in Farmington and have a Red Sea that I could part with for $50. As far as I know all works correctly. I have it in my 46 now running 3x MJ1200 and my Mag 7 return. I am flying out to California tomorow, back Monday night. Let me know if you are interested.

can i use the red sea with only 2 powerheads? I would use my skimmer and fuge on #4 i guess. That leaves 2 maxi900s. I am looking to alternate or alternate and some both on times. while running both on all the time, some things get angry. I have the 900s in the back corners with the defusers and streams colide about mid tank, if i aim for the front oposite corners, my xenia and frogspawn get constricted.
CHAUVET SF-4005 is the lighting timer i was debating, 30 shipped. simple 2 ch alternating. Would the red sea for 50 have added benifits for only 2 powerheads ?

night mode and feed button are nice features of the Red Sea Wavemaker. Not sure if there are two versions, regular and Pro, but the Pro that I have has these functions. And yes, you can run it with only two and have the 4th outlet set to always on for skimmer and fuge.
