Question

Looking for canister filter suggestions

I am in the market for a canister filter in the ~$100 range. I would like to be able to activley run carbon and other things on occation and I am looking for suggestions. Ease of use, reliability, idiot proof, ... are all things I would like.

A Fluval is currently the front runner.

Suggestions Please.

It is kind of scary but that is actually what I was looking at http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...1&N=2004+22777

For PetSmart do I have do do something special for the free shipping, and what exactly do you mean by "look got 10-20% off cupons"?

Another thing I am trying to avoid is a filter that requires special pads/filters, I really just want to be able to use my own carbon, polyfilters, ... do both of these do this? I am good with lots of things but I have avoided filters for a long time, sorry about my ignorance.

Go with the fluval, but don't run the foam on the inside.

Look for cupons for PETSMART...they always have some type of promo going on.

Free shipping is also a code you need to look for.
you can run your carbon etc in the 404 or the Rena

Hi Mike, Magnum 350's are good, I like the older Fluval 403/303's, NO filter can hold as much carbon, floss, foam or whatever you want to put in them. Eheim are good but more $$. I am not a big fan of the newer Fluvals, having chambers and forcing water up and thru it, with head pressure is.....not good.

Also the newer fluvals are on sale everywhere regardless of where you buy them retail/wholesale, not a good sign. pm sent

I am using Eheim ECCO and Pro II on my 55G. I like Eheim ECCO better than Pro II. Eheim ECCO is ~$100. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...product=EH2234
