Local LFS

After reading a post where someone had said that Sea dreams in Savage had instant ocean salt for $34 I thought since I was in the neighborhood I would stop by and pick some up and checkout the store. I have never been there and avoided it after hearing how some of the people have been treated. When I walked in I went right towards the salt displays to see if anything was priced, all fish seem to be priced and I couldn't tell if the corals were priced or not. I went over to the dry goods area to check stuff out and look for the salt. I could not find it so I asked a guy if they had any and what the price was. He checked in the back and said that he had one bucket and then checked the computer and said the price was $34.99. I said I would take it. He then began to ring it up and then the lady behind the counter said that isn't right, the price is wrong. I started to remember the previous experiences members have had with this LFS and knew what was coming. They then informed me that the price was $50.00 for a bucket. Steaming inside and trying to hold my composure and not go off. I just said figures turned around and walked out. It makes me wonder how succesfull someone could be who ran a store and ran it right compared to incompetant people who run a store and seem to stay in business.

IO is $34.99 for the 160gal bucket there, I checked it out myself about 10 days ago. I know which girl you are talking about and I am not sure why she would say it's $50.
I am pretty happy with them. They treat me good and I get decent prices there.

I was in there the other day and some new guy was setting up his tank. He had asked what we would be a good starter fish and got reccomended a yellow tang or a coral beauty! Seems like youve gotta be "part of the club" there....

FWIW, there are a few people that work there that know their stuff. One guy is pretty much just freshwater and I don't usually listen to what he says. I guess it's just like all the other stores where not every employee has all the knowledge he should have

btw: Both Yellow Tang and Coral Beauty are good starter fish as they are categorized as "easy to care for".

That's messed up. I applaude your composure. Guess you have to be frogbone to get the good pricing.

Go try a to buy a bucket there now for $34.99. If you do I want a copy of your receipt for the $34.99.

And I was bummed for driving from Lakeville up to Har-Mar pets for our 2 IO buckets....now I'm relieved that we did. Three weeks ago when we called Sea Dreams, I think they said no IO in stock (then) anyway.

Categorized by who? I don't see how any tang could be a good starter fish. They require frequent feeding and aren't as hardy as the fish I consider starter fish. Have to disagree.

Care level on both : easy

I don't think "frequent feeding" would be a reason to call a fish a" non starter fish"
The Yellow Tank is actually very hardy but I must conceed, it can be prone to ich which woudn't be a good thing for a beginner to face.

Other than that I stand by what I said

Ok now, let's stick with what was said: "Beginner fish", not "Tank Cycling Fish" !

Ahh, point taken. If the tank is cycled, I would agree. With the exception of the ich issue with the tang, and that the Coral Beauty can pick at corals and tank mates, I think they would make good "starter fish".

If the tank was FO or FOWL I would recoment a trigger tho.

I would agree that a Yellow Tang could be considered a beginner fish. Yeah they could get ich, but a lot of other hardy fish can get it too. Ideally, the beginner should be familiar with Quarentine.
